Back in 2021, when studying at my upper secondary school, I wanted to take my web development hobby to a new level. I started to get bored of the courses in school, and felt that I easily could transfer my hobby to a decent salary.

In those early days, armed with nothing more than a laptop and an unstoppable passion, I set out to create experiences that were not only visually captivating but also functionally robust and secure. My first project was developing a landing page for the Australian linen company Young Laundry (the website is still used today!). They wanted a blazingly-fast website, so I applied every little trick in the book to get Google’s PageSpeed insights to be as green as possible.

The early days

My first handful of projects consisted mainly of static pages built with HTML / CSS / Vanilla JS or with WordPress. This gave me a prime opportunity to later excel into more complex technologies and learn the ins and outs of web development and security. I developed an interactive last-man-standing game in Fastify and Next.JS, a UV-index service called UV-Kollen also in Next.JS, and websites for an economy, STEM, and tabloid magazine.

Growing the list of clients

One of my biggest projects was with Säkerhetskollen, an initiative from the Swedish Anti-Theft Association. To bridge the gap between the often complex material on the Säkerhetskollen website and the general internet user, gamification of the content was needed. The project got the name Nätklok (eng. wise on the internet) and was aimed primarily towards students in middle and high school. To solve this problem, me and my project-colleague Charles Maddock built a CMS from scratch that handles about 15 different question formats, in Swedish and English, and adapted for three different age groups (youth, adult, senior).

The Nätklok web app was built in React and uses Material Design at its core to make it as accessible as possible. Later, a Multiplayer mode was built where the web app, using Websockets, allows one device to lead a game for multiple participants.

Another project was with the group traveling agency Group 33, which needed a complete re-do of their digital platform. I built a Next.JS app that handles all active group trips, travelers and their active trips, quote requests, and a CMS. The app integrates with their marketing automation service, Swedbank Pay as a payment provider, and their transactional messaging service.
