Digital Ungdom: Teaching programming to young professionals

I’ve been a member of the nonprofit organization Digital Ungdom since I decided to start learning web development to make a living out of it. The organization has existed since 2018 and its purpose is simple: to in Sweden develop and maintain young people’s interest in and knowledge of digital technology and computer science.

I was fortunate enough to be elected board member back in 2021, and worked together with my colleagues in the board to develop the organizations goals for three years. But not just that, to engage with the community, we planned and executed several meetups, workshops and events with the simple purpose of teaching various things in tech.

Virtual programming and study evenings

We hosted several virtual events where members could join us in practicing our development skills. The members were always eager to learn and the events acted as a community to get help with programming and study-related questions.

Project show off evenings

Many talented people in our community were eager to show off their latest projects in web development, AI, game development, operating systems, logic circuits, baking, and much more. Therefore, we arranged events where the community could Show off, we even had a dedicated channel just for the latest projects within Digital Ungdom.

Building software together

To generate a steady income for the nonprofit, we gathered a team of developers to develop software for a handful of collaborating organizations, including mainly Rays for Excellence and Svenska Stöldskyddsföreningen (SSF). This software is still in use today.

Continuing to make an impact

Digital Ungdom is continuing to host events and support talented young people in their quest to become world’s most talented creatives. You can support their work over at https://digitalungdom.se!
